Community Circle Cards

Final Project

For my Final Project I created a set of Community Circle Cards to use in Community Circle alongside SEL lessons. My goal in creating this deck of Community Circle Cards was to create a platform for students to cultivate conversation and build connections. I agree with Turkle in that too often we sacrifice conversation for communication. Rooted in my belief that: students learn best when they have authentic connections to themselves, to their classmates, to their teacher and to their learning, I started a set of Community Circle Cards that I will continue to build onto with more identity based activities.

    This is such a fantastic idea, Emily! I love that it not only looks like it would be a ton of fun for the students but that is also incorporates so many different learning styles; kinesthetic, spacial, auditory, interpersonal, etc. Although it seems like it was developed with elementary students in mind, I honestly think my high school students would be SO into this. I'm definitely going to try it out.

Perspective on how students learn (Tuesday 6/29)

The Question: What does Mike Wesch believe about how students learn?  How does he act on those beliefs? Mike Wesch believes that student learn when their investment in their learning is rooted in personal interests. Further, he believes that students learn through being challenged and solving these challenges. For Wesch, learning is an activation of the skills needed to foster the confidence to "keep loving ourselves when we fall and [know] that one of these days we will make it" (Wesch). He acts on his beliefs of how students learn by finding out what truly drives his students and proceeding to create learning environments that embrace and center student passions .
